What is DSE?

DSE, or Display Screen Equipment, refers to devices and tools such as computers, laptops, monitors, and other related equipment that are regularly used in a workplace or study environment. Proper use and setup of DSE are critical to ensure comfort, reduce the risk of strain or injury, and promote overall well-being when working or studying for extended periods.

DSE assessments are designed to evaluate your workstation setup, posture, and equipment to ensure compliance with health and safety standards. This helps to identify and address any potential issues that could lead to discomfort or injury, such as back pain, eye strain, or repetitive strain injuries.

When can I request a DSE Assessment?

You may request a DSE assessment at any time by following the process outlined below. Our dedicated DSE assessor will conduct the assessment. Staff will receive an annual reminder about the DSE assessment process, including any updates or changes. New employees will undergo a DSE assessment within 60 days of starting their employment, which will be included in their IT induction.

Please note: that it is the employee's responsibility to request a DSE assessment.

Who is our DSE Assessor?

The Itchen College DSE Assessor is Kim Lidbury who is based in S37 (IT Support Department).

To help you understand more about the DSE process and what you can do to help ensure you are comfortable in your work environment, please view the DSE self assessment form below. Please be aware that you must complete DSE training before completing your a DSE self assessment. This training is part of the Health & Safety (iHASCO) course, which is provided at the beginning of your employment and refreshed every five years.
